Moments after news of the Japan quake, someone on Twitter posted an angry tweet about a CNN anchor joking about Godzilla. This spread like wildfire.
I’m not going to get into that, but it brought up something that really bothers me when I have turned on cable news.
TV news people act like they want to be your friend. And I don’t want that.
I don’t know whether it’s the pressure of the 24/7 news cycle or the whole movement of making entertainment out of the news; but it is a pain to watch some perky news reader try to be serious. Worse is the sense that more and more reporters seem to insert themselves into the story.
This has resulted in news channels competing to be the one’s, “On Your Side” and “Keeping them Honest”. And it has come at the cost of concentrating on serious news.
And it comes to a head in times like these, where we want and need news, not happy shinning faces
